AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 The people of the town rejoicingly 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 Fear Allah and do not disgrace me' 69 They (people of the city) said: "Did we not forbid you to entertain (or protect) any of the 'Alamin (people, foreigners, strangers, etc. from us)?" 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 By your life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 There are great Signs in this for those endowed with intelligence. 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 Surely! Therein is indeed a sign for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
