The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, 1 right, to warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings unto the believers, who do righteous deeds, that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 In which they will abide forever. 3 And to warn those who say “Allah has chosen a child.” 4 They have no knowledge of this, as their fathers did not have. How terrible are the words they utter! They speak nothing but lies. 5 Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow. 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works. 7 And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. 8 Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder? 9 When those youths took refuge in the cave, they prayed: "O our Sustainer! Bestow on us grace from Thyself, and endow us, whatever our [outward] condition, with consciousness of what is right!" 10 We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years 11 Thereafter We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties was best at reckoning the time that they had tarried. 12
