AND CALL to mind, through this divine writ, Abraham. Behold, he was a man of truth, [already] a prophet 41 When he said unto his father: O my father! Why worshippest thou that which heareth not nor seeth, nor can in aught avail thee? 42 Father, there has come to me knowledge such as came not to thee; so follow me, and I will guide thee on a level path. 43 “O my father, do not be a bondman of the devil; indeed the devil is disobedient towards the Most Gracious.” 44 “O my father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Gracious may reach you, so you would become a companion of the devil.” 45 He said: Rejectest thou my gods, O Abraham? If thou cease not, I shall surely stone thee. Depart from me a long while! 46 He answered: "Peace be on you. I will seek forgiveness of my Lord for you. He has been gracious to me. 47 "And I shall remain separated from you and all that you worship other than Allah and shall worship my Lord; possibly, by worshipping my Lord, I will not be amongst the unfortunate.” 48 So when he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allah, We gave him Ishaque (Isaac) and Ya'qub (Jacob), and each one of them We made a Prophet. 49 We granted them Our mercy and bestowed on them true and high renown. 50
