۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
