۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
