۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
