And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink. 33 "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you die and have become dust and bones, that you will be brought forth again? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon." 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 So they rejected them, calling them liars, and they too eventually became of those that were destroyed. 48 for, indeed, We had vouchsafed revelation unto Moses in order that they might find the right way. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
