(Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed: 34 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. So, what do you bid?" 35 They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed. 38 and the people were told: "Will you join the assembly? 39 Haply we may follow the magicians, if they are the vanquishers. 40 Then, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, 'Shall we indeed have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 41 "Yes," he replied. "You 'will be among the honoured." 42 Moosa said to them, “Cast whatever you intend to cast.” 43 So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." 44 Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show. 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds: 47 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 48 Said he: You believe in him before I give you permission; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you the magic, so you shall know: certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and certainly I will crucify you all. 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 We certainly hope our Lord will forgive our sins as we are the first to believe." 51
