And convey unto them the story of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
