And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
