(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
