(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
