Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
