'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
