The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
