'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
