(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
