The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
