Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 Which the trusted spirit descended with 193 To thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish. 194 In a clear Arabic language. 195 Truly, it is in the Books of the ancients. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers: 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not. 202 And they will say, "May we be reprieved?" 203 Do they want to hasten Our torment? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 what will it then avail them, the enjoyment of days they were given? 207 We never destroyed a village that did not have warners 208 for a reminder; and never did We wrong. 209 And the Shaitans have not come down with it. 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 Warn your close relatives 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 who can see whether you stand up 218 and sees your movements among those who prostrate themselves: 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 Shall I declare unto you upon whom the satans descend! 221 They descend on every lying, wicked person, 222 who readily lend ear [to every falsehood,] and most of whom lie to others as well. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Have you not seen that they wander distract in every valley, 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
