The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 in a land close by. But, after their defeat they shall become the victors. 3 in a few years. To God belongs the Command before and after, and on that day the believers shall rejoice 4 With the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Have they never learned to think for themselves? God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth and a term set [by Him]: and yet, behold, there are many people who stubbornly deny the truth that they are destined to meet their Sustainer! 8 Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? They were stronger than these in power, and they dug the earth and built upon it more than these have built. Messengers of their own came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty). Surely Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves. 9 Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. 10
