AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]. 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 They say, 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
Almighty Allah's Truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
