We sent Moses to the Pharaoh and his nobles with Our miracles and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe". 46 But when he showed them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 So when We averted the calamity from them, they immediately broke the promise! 50 And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 So he made his people unsteady, and they obeyed him; surely they were an ungodly people. 54 We took revenge on them by drowning them all together. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
