Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
