Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
