Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
