Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
