Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
