EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time? 30 Say thou: "Wait, [then,] hopefully; behold, I, too, shall hopefully wait with you!" 31 Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds? 32 What! They say, “He has invented the Qur'an”? Rather they do not have faith. 33 Let them bring a discourse like thereunto, if they say sooth. 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing! 36 Do they possess the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the treasurers? 37 Have they a stairway whereby they overhear? Then let their listener bring an authority manifest. 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or is it that [they who reject thy message, O Muhammad, fear lest] thou ask of them a reward, so that they would be burdened with debt [if they should listen to thee]? 40 Or have they the unseen so that they write (it) down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Or do they have a God besides Allah? Purity is to Allah from their ascribing of partners to Him. 43 And if they should see a fragment of the heaven falling down, they would say: it is only clouds piled up. 44 So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),- 45 A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped. 46 Truly, for those who do wrong there is a punishment besides that, though most of them do not know it. 47 And so, await in patience thy Sustainer's judgment, for thou art well within Our sight. And extol thy Sustainer's limitless glory and praise whenever thou risest up, 48 And in the night also hallow Him, and at the setting of the stars. 49
