The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
