The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 and taught to him 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 then came down close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
