The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
