The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
