The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
