HAST THOU, then, ever considered him who turns away [from remembering Us, and cares for no more than the life of this world,] 33 Who gives but little, and is niggardly? 34 What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see? 35 Has he not been made acquainted with what was written in the scriptures of Moses? 36 and Abraham, who paid his debt in full? 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, 39 And that his deeds will be seen, 40 then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 and that He it is Who causes people to laugh and to cry, 43 and that He it is Who causes death and grants life, 44 and that it is He who created pairs, the male and the female, 45 from a drop of sperm when it was emitted, 46 And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; 47 That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction; 48 That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star); 49 And that He destroyed the first [people of] 'Aad 50 And destroyed the tribe of Thamud, not sparing anyone? 51 And before them, the people of Noah, for that they were (all) most unjust and most insolent transgressors, 52 And that it is He Who threw down the upturned townships? 53 So there covered them that which covered. 54 So O listener! Which favour of your Lord will you doubt? 55 This is a warning just like those of former times. 56 The Imminent is near at hand; 57 There shall be none besides Allah to remove it. 58 Do you, perchance, find this tiding strange? 59 and do they laugh instead of weeping, 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. ۩ 62
