The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
