The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
