The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
