The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
