The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Merciful 1 has taught the Koran. 2 He created man. 3 He taught distinctness. 4 The sun and moon rotate in a predestined orbit. 5 And the grasses and the trees bow (to Him) in adoration. 6 And the heaven, He raised it high, and He made the balance 7 So that none may err against the scales, 8 And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient. 9 And earth -- He set it down for all beings, 10 In which are fruits, and covered dates. 11 and a variety of corn with both husk and grain. 12 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 13 He has created man from dry, rotten clay like the potter's, 14 And He created the jinn of a flame of fire. 15 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 16 Lord of the Two Easts, Lord of the Two Wests, 17 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 18 He has set flowing two seas that appear to meet. 19 [yet] between them is a barrier which they may not transgress. 20 Which of the wonders of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 21 There come forth from them pearls, both large and small. 22 (Jinn and mankind) - which of the favors of your Lord would you then deny? 23 Also, His are the ships that run, raised up like mountains upon the sea. 24 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 25
