The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
