The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
