The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and continuous shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches; 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
