The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
