The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
