A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
