These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
