The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
