The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 stripping away his skin, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
