In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
