Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
